We are getting older, but no one wants to be seen: The wave of success of the “anti-aging” products is never ending. And in fact, you can slow down the clock – not necessarily with cosmetics, but with the right food.
Sagging, faded skin, wrinkles, gray, dull hair: The signs of aging are well known and feared. But what is aging actually? Rather than about us as a whole, the process is about the condition of each of our approximately 70 billion body cells. They do not really care how old the body is – they are either healthy and well fed or not. With increasing age, however, the cells can less and less often divide and thus renew – the secret is to keep them healthy for as long as possible.
ANTIOXIDANTS AS AGE BRAKE
What you should avoid, because it fights rather than promotes a youthful appearance, we know: Little sleep and exercise, nicotine, alcohol, UV radiation and an unhealthy diet are guarantors that you look as old as you are – at least. But the other way around, there are also some foods that support a young look and a long life.
A pacifier is an antioxidant that scavenges and neutralizes free radicals. This is important because they damage the cells – and are also suspected to promote cancer and cardiovascular disease. A large amount of antioxidants can be found in fruits and vegetables (especially recommended: tomatoes, berries, red apples and mushrooms), but also in vegetable oils, soy, cocoa and eggs.
Another important factor for the proper functioning of the cells is a healthy ratio of Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids. Most of them consume too much omega-6 fatty acids, such as fatty meats, pastries and ready meals. On the other hand, healthy omega-3 fatty acids, which are especially found in fish, vegetable oils, flaxseed and nuts (especially good: walnuts), are often missed out. These foods may therefore be accessed.
EATING FOR A LONG LIFE
Of course, even if you can not stop the aging process, you can hesseen on a longer life – with foods that reduce the risk of typical age-related diseases such as cancer or cardiovascular disease. And there are some of them.
Fish, green tea, even coffee in moderation, chocolate with at least 70 percent cocoa content and the polyphenols contained in red wine have already been shown to have health-promoting and life-prolonging effects: they all have a preventative effect on cancer and heart disease.
And nuts also have their reputation as a healthy snack for no reason: they lower the level of bad cholesterol, protect and strengthen the blood vessels and counteract inflammation. But beware: The portions should not be too big, because they also beat with comparatively many calories to book.
Finally, healthy eating generally has the effect of promoting the release of so-called happiness hormones. Fish, nuts, soybeans, brown rice, and curd cheese, as well as bananas, avocados, dates, and figs are particularly noteworthy here. And the principle “happy lives longer” is well recognized in scientific circles.
